Etsy and marketplace orders

How to manage Etsy orders in Shopify

How to bring Etsy orders into Shopify with a marketplace connector, then run production and shipping from one order workspace.

You can sell on Etsy and still do the operational work in Shopify: see the order, move it through production, and ship it from the same place you already fulfill website orders.

That only works if the Etsy order actually becomes a Shopify order first. Shopify does not magically list every Etsy sale. A marketplace connector does that job.

Why merchants centralize

Etsy is a sales channel. Shopify can be a workspace. If you also have a Shopify store, running two completely separate production queues usually means two lists, two “where is this order?” answers, and two places to forget a photo or a proof.

Centralizing is useful when:

  • The same people make both Etsy and website orders
  • Custom work still happens after payment
  • You already ship from Shopify

It is less useful if Etsy is your only channel and you are happy in Etsy’s own tools.

The connector sits in the middle

The practical chain looks like this:

Etsy → marketplace connector → Shopify Orders → your production workflow → Shopify fulfillment / shipping → the connector updates Etsy when that connector supports it.

Shopify also offers Marketplace Connect for some marketplaces. New Etsy connections are not currently supported through Marketplace Connect. Existing Etsy connections through that app may continue. If you are connecting Etsy for the first time, use a compatible marketplace connector instead. Several Shopify apps can sync Etsy orders into Shopify.

Pick a connector based on what you actually need copied: customer email, order number, line items, personalization, and whether tracking is sent back to Etsy after you fulfill in Shopify. Those details belong to the connector, not to your production app.

Shopify as the order workspace

Once the order exists in Shopify, treat it like any other Shopify order: it has a name, a customer, payment, and a fulfillment state. Unfulfilled still only means “not shipped yet.” For a personalized product, that can include waiting on a photo, waiting on a proof, or sitting in production.

Where Orderflow fits

Orderflow does not import Etsy orders. It does not talk to Etsy Messages.

If the connector created a Shopify order, Orderflow can track production stages on that order, collect missing details or photos on your Shopify lookup page, send proofs, and set a Ship by date. When you change status in Orderflow, Orderflow writes a Shopify tag such as status-Ready to Ship so you can filter native Shopify Orders later.

What Orderflow does not do

  • Import the Etsy sale
  • Replace the marketplace connector
  • Print shipping labels
  • Guarantee that tracking posts back to Etsy
