Customer order status

How to let customers check the progress of a custom order

How to give customers a storefront order lookup they can use before a tracking number exists.

Shopify’s default order status page is built around payment and shipping. That is the right page once a label exists. It is a thin page while you are still making the thing.

Custom-product customers still want to know whether you received the order, whether you need something from them, and whether production has started.

Why “check your email” is not enough

Email is easy to miss, filter, or read on the wrong device. A lookup page on your site lets someone type an email and order number and see the current step, without logging into Shopify.

Proof review and “we still need a photo” also belong on that page. If those live on three different links, people lose them.

What to show—and what not to show

Show progress in customer language. Show the due date if you promised one. Show line items if it helps them confirm they have the right order.

Do not show internal notes, vendor problems, or staff-only filenames. A customer-facing message is for them. An internal note is for your team.

Put it on a dedicated page

A lookup form on the homepage fights with merchandising. A page such as Order Status (/pages/order-status) is easier to bookmark and easier to put in an email.

Proof emails can use that same URL with a proof parameter so the customer does not need a second destination.

Using Orstrax Orderflow

Website Lookup Form is how you add order lookup to a dedicated Shopify page. Customers look up orders with email and/or order number. They do not log into Shopify.

You choose what they can see: progress, order number, name, dates, line items, shipping, customer messages, and customer actions such as proof review or an information request.

During onboarding, Orderflow can create that page when the app has permission to write Shopify pages. You can also create the page in Shopify Admin and paste the published URL into Website Lookup Form. Existing shortcode pages keep working; the app block is the better path for new pages.
